I would like to make sure we own every book written by Nobel prize winners in all fields. Unfortunately, outside of the Literature Prize, Gobi doesn't reliably tag (with Approval notes) books that aren't necessarily themselves direct award winners but are written by authors who did win the Nobel. I would either like to have the Approval notes used more consistently to indicate when the book is written by a Nobel winner or else maintain Spotlight lists for the same purpose. One example of a book won by an Econ Nobel winner but does not have any such indication is Alvin Roth's TWO-SIDED MATCHING: A STUDY IN GAME-THEORETIC MODELING AND ANALYSIS. Econ and many other prizes are not awarded for a single specific publication. But this book encapsulates the scholarly work he did that did garner him the prize.
This is exactly what I wanted, but can you folks work on going further back than 2015? I would love to see it all the way back to the first Nobels, but at least 1980's winners forward, as Nobel winners' works are probably worth our purchasing no matter how old they are, at least for historical (eg "history of science") value.
Thank you for this idea and the great details about how this information could be improved. We will retain this idea for future consideration. In the meantime, a new GOBI Spotlight list has been posted that includes Nobel Prize winners from 2015-2023 that might be of interest to you and other libraries who want to collect titles from Nobel prize winning authors. The list can be found in the What's New section of Spotlight Lists in GOBI. Description below.
